ParticipantWOW! I finally made it to Centennial and turned some laps. I am a very happy man. It is a fantastic track, great design, awesome paddock.
I just need bigger B**ls around a couple corners. The turn that leads onto the front straight is a downhill slightly banked right turn. Not sure but i think the fast guys were taking that turn with no brakes, just pitching it in. Anyone have any advice?
My day ended with a broken throttle cable on the last lap. not bad.

InactiveAdvice:
*Get bigger “B_ lls” :idn:
*If it is banked you should be powering through it 👿

ParticipantWe need more details! How is it to drive? Is it pretty technical? Looks like it is. How about gearing? I’ve heard alot of different opinions on what gearing would be. Some say its close to Bandi. Is the track completely finished (as in the runoff reasonably landscaped)?
I cant wait to try out the track! Early forcasts are predicting near 70 degrees on saturday, so I hope to be out then! 8)

ParticipantHi Joe, it is AWESOME to drive, the tight parts flow together well and the track gradually opens up for the fast sections.
As for gearing, I was geared too short with my 11/84 combo, I will try again with 11/82 or 11/80. I was definitely on ‘overrev’ at the end of the straight.

ParticipantI heard that turn one isn’t banked rather that it runs away from the corner ie offcamber(?)(what’s the word I’m looking for?)
Glad to hear it’s another nice track to drive…

InactiveI haven’t driven at The Track yet, but I’ve been there and it and it looks technical but has some speed straights. I sure wouldn’t want to go off the track though because it has huge rocks and ruts around it and there is a deep drainage area on the front straight and if you go off you are in trouble.

ParticipantGreetings from Canada. Will try and make it there for a little fun when im back April 22nd-25th. Heard Kirk had fun…….its so nice to have a track VERY close to my family’s house.

ParticipantThanks to all that showed up this weekend.
I can tell you, don’t go off the Track.
I don’t know of any car racing where you can get off the track, and still “race”.
Same is true here.

InactivejIM,
Sounds like you need some barriers. any plans?

InactiveI can contest to turn one (counterclockwise). Man is it fast wide open! The only problem is that when others drop their rear inside tire off it dumps a hole lot of gravel on the track and when you hit it wide open and the temps are low you are going for a ride! I ended up bending a brake rotor going off at I’m guessing 60+ mph sideways. I think about two or three rows of rose bushes lined along the inside should keep people away from the inside line. Other than the gravel issue man it was fun. You really need to stay focused because of the combo’s. As for gearing your in the ball park with an 80 or 82.

ParticipantPat thought it was an awesome track, too. Not necessarily the most Rotax-friendly–with all the turns–but very technical and smoooooth. He loved the downhill sweeper coming into the front straight (he says–don’t get off the gas!). Currently, it’s his second-favorite track after South Bend (which has more straights).
I agree with the concerns about runoff areas. At the moment, the soil is so soft that you’re not going to go very far (young Peter can attest to that after having one of his tie rods vibrate completely off–I really need to cut back on the 1 a.m. wrenching!). But once it hardens up, there are some fairly nasty spots to end up in. (C’mon, Jim, from SCCA to F1, there are certainly cases of off-track excursions that don’t necessarily end your day! 😉 )
Things to look forward to:
– installing Alfano timing strips for those of us who don’t have MyChron data acquisition
– more trash cans
– PA or radio system to reach to the end of the paddock
– full-service restaurant with bar :cheers:All in all, a GREAT track! Thanks, Jim!!

ParticipantThanks for all the comments.
The apex curbs are going to be installed in two weeks. That will keep all the gravel off the track.
The grasses should start growing soon to stabilize the dirt, then we will smooth out the proper runoff areas around the facility.Trash cans??? I knew I forgat something… Off to Home Depot…
Bye for now.Gearing suggestions.
TaG – same as Bandimere.
Shifter, same as IMI, treat it as a 5 speed. Things will be close.

InactiveI can tell you that this track is why we have joined the sport. Thanks Jim and thanks Ben Schermerhorn (we bought Ben’s Trulli kart for my wife).

ParticipantWell, I got out to The Track yesterday and turned my first laps. What an awesome track! It’s an enormously fun, twisty, technical track. And I likes me a technical track. As some people have mentioned, you really have to be concentrating on your line to drive it properly, but once you get it down and get into a rythem, it becomes really enjoyable. And, man, is that last corner onto the straight a rush! It’s going to be a tough track to pass on, come race day.
And to top it all off, it was a completely problem free day for us…which is probably a first! 😀
Big thanks to Jim for building such a great track!
