One of our racers needs our help.

As many of you know, Bob Reed has encountered some very serious health issues and has had an extended stay in the hospital. Twenty-one days and 40 lbs lighter, he is still not out of the woods.

There will be a fund raiser / racer get together for the 50th annual running of the Daytona 500! The party will be at the Skylark Lounge on Broadway (Denver) on February 17th. The club owner is donating an upstairs room which has pool tables, shuffle board, and it’s own restroom facilities. They will tend bar for tips only. The food will be supplied by my wife, Lucy, Tammy Jacobellis, and whoever would like to contribute. This in itself will be worth attending.

I have spoken to shop and track owners who are very supportive of this cause. Several in our karting community have offered enthusiasm in supporting this event. I will keep the forum updated on the specifics of their contributions. There will be some very worth while items to acquire for you racing effort including: racing gear, schwag, custom paint work, consumables, etc… We will also have a Daytona 500 pool. This will be a kick and add some excitement to the race. Pool and shuffle board tourneys will also be included.

Please consider participating in this cause at some level. I know Bob may not want us to be doing this (he does not know) but without health insurance, hospital and prescription costs are really adding up. It’s a big blow to him and his family! All he can do is sit at home and think about the walls coming in. Let’s pull together and give him a little help. Plus, we can get together and have a little “frustrated winter racer fun” and add to our racing programs at the same time. We are going to do this, even if it is just a hand full of the core group initiating this for him. I know the group we race with and the kind of people we are! My best friends are there. Great people do great things! This would be a great help for Bob and his family.

For those of you newer racers (yes we need your help too,) Bob and his family have been around the racing community for 8 years. They are not your typical racing family. The norm is “in and out” in about 18 months. And Bob and his family have engaged in this sport on a much tighter budget than most and Bob always seems to get Ronnie to the front. If someone needs parts or something that he has, they’re yours! If someone needs help, Bob’s there breaking his knuckles willing to give what he can! Bob is what racing is all about really. It’s not the big pro teams traveling around in the big rigs, they are a small percentage of karting as a whole. It’s about people like Bob who show up in whatever gets them there! No one is more passionate about their family and he has certainly been known to be very animated when his kids are on the track! The Colorado karting community would not be the same without him.

I’m sure Bob has pulled many different emotions from people. But I’m pretty sure everyone respects him! Let’s help!

I will keep updates coming over the next 3 weeks and promise to keep everyone posted on what kind of goodies you could walk away with.

This will be done with 100% volunteer help. All money will go to Bob and his family.

    Thank you,

    Rick

My wife and I will be out of town that weekend but we’re in!

As you know from personal tasting experience, we own a boutique coffee roasting company and we will gladly put together a big Gourmet Coffee & Food Basket for a silent auction item!

Count us in; I will get with you to arrange delivery of the basket before we head out of town next month.

    Glad to help.

    Thank you so much Troy!

That is so cool of you! It is really appreciated. Your coffe is awesome and now my wife is prodding me to get more.

If anyone would prefer to contact me via cell. 303-886-4190

And a thanks to those who have already called me in support for Bob.

We can’t leave any our soldiers in the battle field, so to speak.

    Rick sounds awesome!!!!!!!!
One question, with it being in a “lounge”, are minors allowed???
If they are, my family and I would love to come!!!

I talked to my mom and shes up for making a pot of her own chile (feeds about 30) and two choclate sheet cakes.
For those of you who were at the last IMI club race (David Zippie,
Mr. Anthony Figuieredo, David Chappel, INTERNATIONAL BROKERS, and others) who had some of her chile know how good it is!!

And its for the perfect cause!!!

    Rick,

A new guy here. If you can get me an estimate of those in attendance, I am sure I can get one of our sponsors, Mountain Morsels to donate some very upscale dessert cakes and maybe a gift box of assorted sweets to auction off.

I may know Bob, not sure, but anytime we can get together in the off season, count us in.

    Thanks Tony,

You have such a great family. That’s a big part of what this is all about anyway.

I will get you an answer. It will take 2-3 days though. Craig Mansfield knows the lounge owner and is on his way down from Canada to help with this. I don’t know why it would be a problem if you are not drinking and not at the bar, but I will find out.

Thanks again or your participation Tony and family.

    Thanks Eric,

Any and everything will help! As for a head count, I have no idea. It could be a hand full of us and it could be a hundred. Going to have to see how it goes here in the next week or so. I will try to get you an idea of attendance the best I can.

Lucy and Tammy could get in a serious bidding war over assorted sweets! Thank you, that would be much appreciated.

I’ll try to dig up a picture of Bob when I get home. He has the son (Ron Reed) who is deaf and the only deaf competitor we have,as far as I know. Like you, loves to do this with his kids. And, like you, he is very passionate about it.

Come out and hang out with some of the racers. I’ve seen you post and it would be cool to spend some time with friends, just for fun. No meetings, no deciding the future of anything. Just hanging out, eating and having a few beers, watching some racing, sharing tuning information or whatever. I’ll crack open the old playbook to anyone that attends. :look

    Thanks

    Late breaking news!!!

I just received a call from a fellow racer (many who know me, know I operate on 5-6 hrs. of sleep a night. Lol) offering a very potent Rotax FR 125 package to be silent auctioned. This package won one of the biggest races of the season in decisive fashion. This package comes with a passport and is Rotax legal! Wow!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I think asking a minimum bid on this package of $850.00 is fair. Someone could possibly walk away with a package that could run up front in the Mile High Rotax Challenge for a very good price! Or, pick up a package capable of winning any Csc or Club race for a potential “deal”. Come out and participate racers. You and Bob may both win!

Thank you again! I respect your desire to remain anonymous, but wish I could spray your name all over this. What a good person you are. This person (who we all know) has seen the Reed family race and what they have done with what they have to work with. He did not hesitate. How bout you? Please help. In any way you can.

What a nice gesture for someone who needs help right now!

I have a friend that had an intestinal problem and spent 2 days in the hospital. He did need an MRI but not much else. His bill was $4900 for a two day stay.

Thank you to this individual! By the way, he will be attending the benefit on the 17th to have fun with fellow racers.

    Did I say Wow?

    Wow!

:usa: I got back from the frozen north late last night. The Skylark has the special area upstairs. They have pool tables and shuffle board. It will be set as a private party so I believe it is kid friendly. I will bring the Hotseat racer so they can work on their moves.
It is a bar area. I went on the fact if my son couldn’t be there I shouldn’t be there. I have a new kart so I won’t bid on the silent auction. I will pledge $100.00 and thanks for all the help over the years Bob. Any questions about the lounge email or call me 303-523-5921 Craig

    Eduardo,

It will be great to hang out with the “Latin contingent” away from the race track! Bring the kids. And thank you for supporting Bob and his family.

Not sure if Bob will be able to come out or not. It would be very cool if he could. He still gets tired real quick when talking to him. He still does not know we’re all helping him. Maybe some video to see his friends pulling together on his behalf might be cool.

Also thank you for the checks I’ve received, you people are awesome. And for all the IM’s and commitment for support received. And all the items already offered, it’s shaping up to have some damn good items to win.

This is really going to be fun.

    Rick
